Mozambique or Republic of Mozambique is an extensive country on the southeast coast of Africa with an area of ??801,590 square kilometers, and a population of 30066648 according to official estimates for 2020.
It is bordered on the north by Tanzania, on the west by Malawi, Zambia, Zimbabwe, on the southwest by the Republic of South Africa and Eswatini, and on the east by the Mozambique Channel (Indian Ocean).
The name of the capital is Maputo.
The country is a multi-party democracy. According to Reporters Without Borders (Worldwide Press Freedom Index 2006), Mozambique ranks 45th out of 168 countries.
The name of the country comes from the name of an Arab sultan known as Muca Alebique.
Mozambique is divided by the Zambezi River into two wider areas: the southern lowlands and the northern highlands. The steppes extend at an altitude of up to 200 meters, from the sea to the Gorongosa and Binga mountains
(in the south, 2,436 meters. the highest point in the country). To the north of the country extends the Namouli mountain range (2,419 meters.) The main river is the Zambezis. The rivers Save and Limpopo also flow in the southern plain.

There is a tropical and subtropical marine climate with two seasons, the wet (November-March) and the dry (April-October).
Average temperatures vary from 15  to 30  C in the lowlands and from 11  to 25  C in the highlands, while the average annual rainfall ranges from 500 to 1,420 mm.
Drought is common in the south. Droughts are also often alternated with catastrophic floods. In Tete, located in the Zambezi Valley, a temperature of 46 degrees Celsius has been recorded in the shade.
The wet northwestern highlands are covered by dense tropical vegetation, the drier inland lowlands by sparse savannah vegetation, while on the coasts and especially in the Zambezi Delta, coconut palms and mangroves abound.
The country's rich fauna includes zebras, buffaloes, rhinos, elephants, giraffes, lions, hyenas and crocodiles (in rivers).
They are protected in various national parks, of which Gorongoza is one of the most interesting in the southern part of the African continent.
